Position Title: ReClaim It Materials Manager
Pay:
$21 per hour
Hours: 35 hours per week, including store retail hours: Wed-Sun 12:00PM –5:00PM (Fri & Sat 12:00PM to 6:00PM Spring/Summer)

Position Overview

ReClaim It, a retail store operated by a non-profit environmental arts organization dedicated to waste reduction, is seeking a dynamic and resourceful Materials Manager. Our store sells unique objects and materials rescued from the waste stream, inspiring the community to creatively reuse and reimagine these items.

As the Materials Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the materials management side of ReClaim It’s operations, ensuring the efficient flow of materials from the Metro Transfer Station to our store. This includes cleaning and repairing items to prepare them for pricing and sale.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, proactive, and has a strong ability to identify the potential value of various items. Strong repair skills, exceptional communication, and organizational abilities are essential. This leadership role requires direct interaction with a team of volunteers across multiple work locations. A friendly, outgoing personality, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work well with others are a must.

This position reports directly to the ReClaim It Store Manager.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Uphold principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all interactions and hold volunteers accountable for inappropriate behavior.

At the Transfer Station:

  • Oversee all operations related to gleaning.

    • Supervise and provide training to volunteer gleaners, including facilitating the Recology safety training.

    • Maintain clear communication with gleaners regarding policies, procedures, and safety.

    • Arrange weekly U-Haul truck rentals for gleaning, and coordinate loading and unloading with the Volunteer Coordinator.

    • Maintain and replace Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for gleaning volunteers as needed.

    • Respond promptly to calls and texts from onsite gleaners needing assistance.

At the Store:

  • Manage external donations in coordination with the Store Manager.

    • Assess the appropriateness of donations based on available store space and volunteer capacity.

    • Collect and accept donations both on-site and off-site as needed.

  • Oversee the operations of the Repair and Cleaning Room.

    • Supervise and mentor volunteers in the repair workroom, ensuring a safe, clean, and organized environment.

    • Maintain tools and supplies, track inventory, and reorder as necessary.

    • Track and report repairs in alignment with ReClaim It’s mission.

    • Operate power tools and hand tools for repair work, and train volunteers as appropriate.

    • Prepare materials for volunteers to create ReClaim It originals.

    • Ensure all cleaning products and tools are safely stored and the workroom is tidy at the end of each day.

    • Ensure the ReClaim It truck is well-maintained and keep a log of trips.

    • Monitor and arrange recycling and trash pickup in the Repair and Cleaning Room and patio.

    • Monitor the Materials Manager email and respond within one working day.

    • Collaborate with staff and board members to support the success of ReClaim It.

    • Attend staff meetings and other meetings as requested.

    • Submit timesheets to the Store Manager in accordance with policy.

    • Provide detailed monthly reports to the Store Manager and board.

    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager or Board.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required:

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a UHaul truck.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Knowledge of safe practices for moving heavy or unwieldy items.

  • Hands-on experience using hand and power tools safely.

  • Willingness to work in environments that may include dirt, dust, and mold.

  • Access to a cell phone or camera for taking photos and receiving texts.

Preferred:

  • Experience leading and training a diverse team of volunteers, with a focus on safety.

  • Experience repairing furniture.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to inspire and motivate others toward a common goal.

  • Independent problem-solving skills.

  • Experience working in a team environment.

  • Experience with non-profit organizations (preferred but not required).

  • Commitment to recycling and reuse.

  • Familiarity with and dedication to ReClaim It’s mission.
