Portland-Area Recycling
& Sustainability Resources
Metro
Metro works with communities, businesses, and residents in the Portland metropolitan area, serving more than 1.5 million people in Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties to chart a wise course for the future while protecting the things we love about this place.
Metro plans and oversees the region's solid waste system—working with local communities and industry partners to reduce waste while managing garbage, recycling and composting in a safe, healthy and cost-effective manner. Metro owns and operates two garbage and recycling stations and hazardous waste facilities. A hotline and an online search tool help people recycle everything from batteries to leftover paint to construction debris. Education and outreach programs offer tips and tools for saving resources and protecting clean air and water at home and on the job.
Ridwell
Ridwell’s mission is to make it simple to get rid of your hard-to-recycle stuff responsibly. They pick up your stuff at your front door and make sure it gets sustainably reused or recycled—so you know it stays out of the landfill.
Ridwell develops and discovers new options for old things by investing in new recycling partners and processes to promote waste diversion. They actively seek out new reuse partners to find homes for things that still have value.
They also support responsible consumption by helping companies close the loop, helping consumers find companies that commit to sustainability. Ridwell makes it viable for companies to reuse their packaging and product materials by picking up from consumers and delivering back to their warehouses.
James Recycling
James Recycling’s mission is to help you throw away less and recycle more!
They actively work to save the environment through a weekly recycling service that complements recycling offered by local garbage haulers.
James Recycling offers home pick-up and regular neighborhood drop-off events where they work together with the community to keep hard-to-recycle materials out of the landfill.
